Curtis B Ermineskin
As someone who has suffered from depression and anxiety most of my life, I took up photography in my 50s as a way to provide a means to express myself and gain a sense of accomplishment. Because I have been a musician for many years I started out shooting live music but eventually felt a need to tell stories of my own creation.
One of the most important aspects of becoming an artist is to be truthful, both to your audience and yourself. My first conceptual series "The Muted Degenerate," was both my public acknowledgement of depression, introversion and social anxiety and how they affect my personality.
As I possess the worlds rarest personality type, thematically my personal style has been influenced by years of trying to fit into a society that doesn't understand me. Visually, my art is influenced by my interpretations of Film Noir, Expressionism, The Beatles, Stephen King novels, David Lynch and Blues music.
I'm based in Calgary, Canada and spend my free time playing guitar, geocaching and watching old monster movies.
